The Shire of West Arthur has signed a contract with Contract Aquatic Services to manage the Darkan Pool for the next two years. This is part of changing the pool from a Grade 3 to a Grade 1, which requires a lifeguard to be on duty whenever the pool is open.

Contract Aquatic Services operates pools throughout the Wheatbelt, including Pingelly, Narembeen, Beverley, Quairading and Williams. They pride themselves on enhancing community wellness and recreation.  Clinton Cheney of CAS said, “We strive to create vibrant community spaces that promote active lifestyles and social engagement.”

“We look forward to hosting events at the pool, including our signature Mega Splash Pool Parties,” he added.

Shire President Neil Morrell said, “While this is a big change in how Darkan Pool operates, we expect the community to benefit, including children over 10 going to the pool by themselves, swimming buddies no longer needed, and even a kiosk.”

Shire staff are working with the Department of Education’s Infrastructure Operations to develop a new lease for the pool, which will commence on 1 January 2025.
