Advertising signage is a land use that often requires approval from the Shire under the Planning and Development Act 2005.
The Shire’s Local Planning Scheme No.2 does contain a schedule that lists all signage that is exempt from the need for the Shire’s development approval provided it complies with the relevant standards and requirements listed in the Schedule.
It is important for people to be aware that any signage that is on or faces a State road under the care, control and management of Main Roads WA will require approval from that agency pursuant to the requirements of the Main Roads (Control of Advertisements) Regulations 1996. Whilst signage of this type may be exempt from approval under the Shire’s Local Planning Scheme No.2 approval is still required from Main Roads WA.
